Each year, the Association recognizes members for our most prestigious awards: REALTOR® of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Affiliate of the Year and Good Neighbor of the Year. The Leadership Evaluation & Selection Committee is looking for members who are involved in the Association and the community, whose ethical and professional behavior makes them role models for others in the industry. The ideal candidate is active and well-rounded in both, real estate and community.

Nomination forms are available now! The deadline to submit your recommendation is October 4, 2019. Candidates are asked to complete a questionnaire detailing their real estate, education, and community involvement. Recipients are announced at the annual Inaugural gala, local newspapers, all Bay East publications, and the Bay East website.

The California Association of REALTORS® has issued a Red Alert opposing SB 329. This bill will force rental property owners to accept Section 8 vouchers.

C.A.R. opposes SB 329 because some rental property owners may not want to be forced to deal with the regulations, inspections, and bureaucracy associated with some aspects of the Section 8 program.

If SB 329 is defeated, property owners may still accept Section 8 vouchers if they choose to do so.

The California Association of REALTORS® has issued a Red Alert opposing AB 1482. This bill will establish a state-wide rent cap and “just-cause” evictions. C.A.R. opposes the bill because it discourages the creation of rental housing, doesn’t address the core cause of the housing affordability crisis, which is the lack of supply and impacts small property owners. A property owner can own just one condominium as a rental and be affected by this bill. As a result, small property owners may decide to pull units off the market rather than be forced to limit rents or to continuing leasing properties.

New Hayward Rental Regulations

The City of Hayward is considering new rental housing regulations. A draft version of these rules, some of which apply to single-family homes and condominiums, is available here.
